Area Cold Front Brought Severe Weather

FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. – After a stretch of near-record heat across central North Carolina, a cold front will bring cooler and less humid air into the state as we head into the weekend. This cold front also sparked severe weather warnings throughout the area on Thursday, according to NBC17 Chief Meteorologist Wes Hohenstein.

There were numerous reports of damaged trees and downed power lines.
People in south central North Carolina, including Fayetteville saw penny sized hail and larger.
In eastern Jones County, just west of New Bern, a tornado was reported around 5:30 p.m. The twister did extensive tree damage to the town of Trenton, including two reports of trees on homes. There was also a report of a roof being blown off a hog house.

Hohenstein said there is good news with this cold front. North Carolina residents will see slightly cooler temperatures and lower humidity Friday and into the weekend.
